In the arduous to the trial against the long-time commander of the SAJ, Spasoj Vulević, who was dismissed from this position because he did not answer directly to Aleksandar Vučić, as "Vreme" reported, the regime finally found an adequate replacement. Igor Žmirić was appointed as the new commander of this highly regarded unit.
Citizens who don't know him should know two main things about Žmirić - the first, that until now he had his back and was an assistant JZO Commander Marko Kričko, whom numerous students, including Nikolina Sinđelić, accused of brutal beatings in the garage of the Government of Serbia during the past summer.
That evening, the media reported, he himself was with Marko Kričko, when students and citizens were arrested near the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
The second is that this same summer, Žmirić was repeatedly filmed using excessive force on students during detention. Žmirić has a tattoo of a rose on his neck, which has always shown loyalty Milorad Ulemek Legija, who is serving a sentence of 40 years in prison for the assassination of Zoran Djindjic, the first democratically elected Prime Minister of Serbia.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that Žmirić is 46 years old, and added that "he was born into a patriotic family with a police tradition." His grandfather was the former chief of police in Sombor.
"Parachuting, which he fell in love with as a teenager, soon brought him to the ranks of the Yugoslav Army, and later to the legendary 63rd Parachute Brigade. After military engagement, and after a rigorous selection check, he transferred to the newly formed unit - the Gendarmerie, and then to the Anti-Terrorist Unit. He stood out as one of the best in the PTJ, when in 2004 he was awarded a gold medal by the then Minister of the Interior "Jakov Nenadović" was declared the best special officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and in 2024, a charter was passed on awarding Igor Žmirić with the Order of the Star of Jakov Nenadović," the MUP announced.
After the abolition of PTJ in 2016, he became a member Special anti-terrorist units.
In 2019, on the proposal of the police director and the consent of the then commander of the SAJ, he was appointed to the position of assistant commander of the Unit for the security of certain persons and facilities, in charge of leading, improving and organizing security protection of certain persons and facilities.
He worked in that unit until 2021, when he was sent to the Gendarmerie, to the position of advisor to the commander. At the suggestion of the minister and the leadership of the Police Directorate, in 2023 he returned to the position of assistant commander of the infamous Unit for the Security of Certain Persons and Facilities.

He is a multiple champion of Serbia in parachuting, the founder of the "Griffon" club and the director of the Serbian parachuting team.
He is married and the father of three children, the MUP stated.
