The initiative of the Free University in Niš called on members of the academic community to boycott all state bodies in response to the amendment of the Regulation Government of Serbia on norms of university working conditions and faculty.
As they stated in the announcement, the invitation refers to university professors, researchers in scientific titles, teaching assistants and assistants for the boycott of government and parliamentary commissions and boards.
"The boycott is a response to the Government's hostile act of disciplining university professors, scientists and associates by drastically reducing or unlawfully and unconstitutionally canceling the right to earnings, for supporting the demands of students," the statement said.
The Free University of Niš condemned, as it stated, hate speech and media incitement to hatred towards university and scientific workers and called on the holders of prosecutorial functions to initiate proceedings against members of the Government, certain members of the Serbian Parliament and the President of the State for "unconstitutional and illegal termination of salaries of teachers and university associates in Serbia".
"The speech and attitudes of the President of the Republic do not leave the average citizen with a dilemma that university professors do nothing, that they are rich and that they should be punished for that, so that millions of citizens would be happy about it. This kind of speech creates tension and hatred towards university professors, who unequivocally represent the most educated social stratum," the statement reads.
