If you live in Niš, are retired and over 70 years old, from December 1 you will be able to ride public transport for free! This recent decision of the City of Nis was seen as a pre-election gift to older fellow citizens. It is true that Nis has not called local elections, but without a doubt he will fight with all his strength for his favorites in the parliamentary elections.
Until now, people over the age of 75 had the right to ride for free.
The mayor of Niš, Dragana Sotirovski, who is also a member of the SNS Presidency, said that until now about 28.000 pensioners had the right to free transportation, and that with the current lowering of the age limit, 10.000 more will have that privilege.
At the same time, she announced the possibility that in the first half of next year pensioners who are older than 65 will also be entitled to a free ride, because "the City of Niš can now financially support that possibility", she explained.
It will somehow be at the time when regular local elections are expected in Niš. By the way, in many other cities of Serbia, pensioners over the age of 65 already have free rides.
According to the last census, there are about 58.000 pensioners in Niš. According to estimates so far, they largely vote for Aleksandar Vučić and SNS.
