How a fake news story spread easily on Twitter and why some people should cut themselves off from the internet, including some fake journalists
It's a well-known fact that on the Internet it is possible to match millions of people at once, so it surprises again and again how easy it is.
Because it seems most social media users take things for granted and don't check anything. Moreover, they readily spread the lie further if it fits their worldview.
A good example these days is a tweet in Serbian, which shows how a large mural dedicated to Kamala Harris is covered with red paint, a few days after her election fiasco which was convincingly won by Donald Trump.
"Yesterday in Pristina. They were in a bit of a hurry to put it away before anyone saw it," wrote the user who shared the video on Friday (November 8).
So far, the video on that user's profile has been seen by 175.000 people, thanks to the fact that nearly four thousand people liked the post, and nearly five hundred retweeted it.
It's bizarre that it seems people don't see or won't see or don't care that the mural is whitewashed - a black man.
Of course, there may be a few black people in Pristina, but that detail could at least make people skeptic enough to check.
This information, based on the mentioned tweet, was transmitted by the regime portals Pinka and Kurira.
Atlanta, Pristina, whatever
It's actually a viral video of a mural being painted in Atlanta, Georgia, reported by several American media.
Well, that's nothing spectacular either - because the mural was part of the campaign and featured a large image of the American vice president with the message "Vote by November 5."
Artist Christopher Clark, who painted the mural, he wrote on Instagram that the idea was not for the mural to remain forever. "It was always the plan" to paint over the mural after the election, he said.
It is clear why American fans of Donald Trump are jubilant. Perhaps it is also clear why his Serbian fans so fervently want the "disgrace" to take place in Pristina.
But how easily are people willing to swallow and spread an obvious lie? It is still an under-researched area.

In a public appeal, 25 members of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts accuse the President of Serbia of collapsing institutions, the media, the judiciary and the basic pillars of society.
Balancing between East and West gained a new dimension during the unexpected visit of Aleksandar Vučić to Ukraine. The German newspaper FAZ estimates that the President of Serbia managed to rhetorically satisfy all parties — but the question is how much longer this political gymnastics can last without shooting
President Aleksandar Vučić said that elections in Serbia will not be held before the end of 2026 or the beginning of 2027, while students gathered around university blockades say that the time for extraordinary elections is now. They point to a drastic drop in support for SNS in the local elections in Zaječar and Kosjerić
When the owner of an illegal television station calls independent journalists "fascists" in a live broadcast, it's not just a question of ethics — it's also a question of law. This is precisely why the director of the Media and Reform Center, Nikola Stojanović, filed a criminal complaint against Bojan Avramović, the director of Niš TV, pointing to the ever-present targeting of professional media in Serbia.
Vučić is not defending the state, but himself from the state. With a drum on his back and a guitar in his hands, this man-orchestra performs two or three of the same songs without hearing, with falsifications and falling out of rhythm. His government and politics are like that. In short - dangerous for the environment
Arrests of professors, punishment of people, firing of journalists... The regime of Aleksandar Vučić is shining and is yet to shine. It is the decadent phase of the regime, the one towards the end
The example of the elections in Zaječar and Kosjerić shows that the truth is not given, but assumed. Truth is a task that a citizen fulfills. She always wins
