Toma Fila came to the assembly hall at 9 o'clock just in case, so that someone would not take the chairman's place that belongs to him as the oldest councilor. The constitutive session was supposed to start at 10 o'clock. It was not held because councilors of the Serbian Progressive Party and the Socialist Party of Serbia did not come again. Thus, the condition for repeating the Belgrade elections was formally fulfilled.
"I am informing you that after the elections, the conditions prescribed by the Law on Local Self-Government for the constitution of the City Assembly were not met. I thank you and, therefore, what I said - elections," said Fila.
Just yesterday, Saturday, on the "recommendation" of its member and the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, the SNS decided to go for "new" elections in Belgrade. Vučić mentioned April 21 or 28 as possible dates for repeated elections in Belgrade.
Defeat of SNS
"Today is a special day for all Belgraders, the day when the SNS, despite the election theft, cannot form a government after 10 years," said the candidate for mayor of Belgrade in the December elections, Vladimir Obradović, and called for "unity and togetherness" of the opposition and citizens.
The holder of the "Serbia against violence" list, Dobrica Veselinović, announced the "struggle for correcting the irregularities" recorded in the December 17 elections.
The President of the Serbian Parliament now has a deadline of 30 days in which he must schedule elections. From appointment to maintenance, no less than 45 nor more than 60 days must pass.
Until then, Belgrade is managed by the Provisional Authority headed by Aleksandar Šapić.
