Prophet Nenad Rasic was elected vice president Assembly of Kosovo from the ranks of the Serbian community, which, after almost half a year, ended the constitutive session of the ninth convocation and formally unblocked the work of Kosovo's institutions.
Rašić's election, which received the support of 71 MPs, with nine votes against and 24 abstentions, enabled the Assembly to begin functioning, and the deadline for the formation of a new government to begin. The Speaker of the Parliament, Dimalj Baša, stated that this fulfilled the obligation according to the decision of the Constitutional Court, which two days ago gave a deadline of 12 days for the completion of the constitution.
This outcome came about after none of the nine candidates of the Serbian List managed to get the necessary support in several rounds of voting. After the unsuccessful candidacies of Slavko Simić, Zlatan Elek, Ljiljana Stevanović and others, the list of proposals from the Serbian List was exhausted, so Nenad Rašić was put to the vote, even though that list did not propose him.
Serbian Lista has the right to appeal today's decision, which could lead to a repeat of the procedure and a new decision of the Constitutional Court, and even to the possibility of calling new elections.
According to the Albanian-language media, the election of Rašić broke the institutional blockade that had been in place since the February elections.
