After it was discovered that Samsung S25 mobile phones and smart watches were distributed to Novi Sad commanders of the Interventional Police Units (IJP) and inspectors of the Public Order and Peace Department as gifts "a small token of appreciation" for the efforts made so far since the months-long protests in Serbia, from of the MUP no one has spoken about it yet.
It did not buy those gifts, nor did they hand them over to the policemen on behalf of the Ministry as a reward prescribed by law, and they are not part of the donation of the city of Novi Sad, which was confirmed by the mayor Žarko Mićin himself.
It is only known that the head of the Police Department of the Police Administration in Novi Sad, Nikola Petrović, handed out the phones to policemen, writes Danas.
The question remains as to who gave these devices to the police officers, and on the basis of which legal regulation.
Lawyer Ivan Ninić says that such gifts are a serious precedent in the police and that they were apparently distributed to "loyalist police officers" and their superiors.
"I will submit a report to the Department of Internal Control (SUK), which I will ask to conduct an investigation into who received these gifts, under what conditions and criteria, and primarily to determine their origin," says Ninic.
