Milan Ostojic, known by the nickname Sandokan, has once again come into the public eye after he was wounded in a shooting in Šabac. According to media reports, Ostojić was shot in the back in front of the shopping center on Wednesday around 23 pm. After being wounded, he was transferred to the hospital in Šabac, then immediately transported to the VMA.
According to "Telegraf", one bullet went through Ostojić's body and exited in the stomach area. He received multiple gunshot wounds.
For now, not all the details of the attack or the motive for the confrontation with firearms are known. "Telegraf" refers to witnesses who allegedly said that the shooting was preceded by an argument in front of a restaurant.
Sabac group
Ostojić is known to the public as one of the people who were associated with the so-called "Sabaka group", that is, a criminal organization that the prosecution charged with a series of serious crimes, including murders and drug trafficking.
According to the verdict of the Special Court in Belgrade from 2013, Ostojić was convicted in the proceedings against members of the Sabaka group. The court found him guilty of inciting the murder of Sinisa Kromek, while he was acquitted of charges of criminal association and drug trafficking. The original sentence of 20 years in prison was later reduced to 10 years by the decision of the Court of Appeal, and he was released from prison in 2018.

During the proceedings, the prosecution claimed that the group headed by Ostojić, according to the indictment, was connected to several liquidations and other serious crimes. Ostojić himself had a reputation in the public eye for years as a person who was part of the criminal milieu of western Serbia.
Sandokan in Chaciland
His name appeared in public again at the end of last year, when the research portal KRIK announced that he was among the people who stayed in the so-called "Ćaciland" - a camp set up in Pionirski Park in Belgrade, which was built by supporters of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić.
Photos obtained by KRIK at the time showed that Ostojić was in a tent with Serbian Progressive Party MP Uglješa Mrdić in November. This investigative media also announced that he visited "Ćaciland" at least once more - during the summer.

Sowing fear in Šabac
In 2020, the then mayor of Šabac, Nebojša Zelenović, spoke about Ostojić's connections with the Serbian Progressive Party. He labeled Sandokan as a person who "sows fear and ensures that no capillary voice is lost to Sabak progressives." Because of those claims, Ostojić sued Zelenović for defamation and won the case in court.
He found himself in the center of attention again after the rally in Slavia on May 19 this year, when, according to media reports, he tried to attack some citizens, and a student prevented him from doing so.
The young man who then verbally clashed with Sandokan told "Vreme" that he heard from several colleagues that money was allegedly offered for his identification, that he was threatened and that he felt unsafe because of this. He also stated that he reported the case to the police.
In recent years, Ostojić has been less present in the public eye, but his name has remained associated with the case of the "Sabaka group", one of the more famous criminal affairs in Serbia.
