Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali said, speaking about the resignation of the American businessman Jared Kushner from investing in the construction of a hotel on the site of the former General Staff in Belgrade, that it is a huge loss for Serbia, but that the withdrawal is not final but immediate.
"They didn't give up forever, but at this moment," Mali told Prva Television.
He stated that it was about, as he stated, a ruin in which an American investor wanted to invest 700 million dollars, which, according to him, were "blockade" prevented.
"Here, are we going to look at that ruin now for the next 100 years, 50 years, I don't know what they want, I didn't understand the point at all to be honest," Mali said.
He also said that the point is to attract investments, not to preserve ruins.
"Here you go, gentlemen, here is the ruin, so now let all the citizens of Belgrade, all the tourists who come, your children and the generations to come look. We wanted to build a beautiful, modern building with a museum that is a memory of all those who died in the NATO aggression in 1999. So, let's show respect for all that, and on the other hand, let's turn a new page, let's say we're going forward, we're going to some further growth, some further development," said Mali.
In March last year, the construction of Trump's hotel in Belgrade cost about 460 million euros, and now, when the agreement failed, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic says it costs 750 million. Some seen progressives are bidding even higher.
