Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti he assessed that Serbia still represents a threat to Kosovo and its neighbors in the Balkans.
At the Security Forum in Warsaw, Kurti justified the actions he took in the north of Kosovo after the armed attack in Banjska, noting that those measures were taken "in order to increase security and prevent Serbian and Russian influence."
He compared the armed attack in Banjska a year ago to Russia's actions in Ukraine.
"Serbia, which today is the same as it was during Milosevic's time, continues to threaten its neighbors, violating the sovereignty and territory of states, including Kosovo. It culminated in the terrorist attack in Banjska on September 24, 2024. Their goal was to imitate Russia's operation in Donbass in 2018. After the attack, our police confiscated thousands of weapons," Kurti said.
He stated that it is not an exaggeration to say that the police not only protected Kosovo, but also prevented an open conflict that could have international consequences.
"As long as Serbia continues to destabilize the north of Kosovo, Russia is trying to open new conflicts," Kurti said.
Speaking about the increased presence of the police in the north of Kosovo and the decisions regarding that part of Kosovo, he said that they were made "in order to increase security and expand legality".
"When we talk about protection and security, it is not enough to just be for it, but also to do it." Defending progress is the same as defending the people. In the north, we established new police stations, we opened gas stations, and the registration of companies began, and this represents progress towards the normalization of the north. We are committed to ensuring safety and prosperity for all regardless of ethnicity. "Today, more than ever, we need the help of NATO, Poland and allies to promote peace," he said.
