Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti during a visit to the northern part Kosovska Mitrovica told journalists that the Pristina authorities are ready to open the bridge, but are waiting for the consent of the countries of Quinte and Kfor.
He pointed out that the bridge over the Ibar in Kosovska Mitrovica will be opened, but that this does not mean that it is against the Serbs.
Upon stating that the Serbs do not want the bridge to be opened and asked if the Kosovo authorities will listen to them on the matter, Kurti said that "freedom of movement must be respected", writes KoSSev.
"Since 2016, there has been an agreement in Brussels that the bridge should be opened by 2017 at the latest. He will be open, but not against anyone, but for the benefit of all of us. For the economic image of the country, it is important that it opens up, for the flow of capital and goods. We don't want to open a bridge against Serbs, on the contrary: We want Serbs, Bosniaks, and Albanians to be able to move freely across that bridge," Kurti said.
He announced the construction of a park near the recently closed building that housed Serbian institutions.
"We need to build new buildings here, we need new space, with greenery. For people to enjoy the green atmosphere, not just asphalt and these old buildings. The municipality has a plan to build a park here for the citizens," said Kurti.
He said that he did not know much about the next meeting of the representatives of Belgrade and Pristina, which is expected in Brussels.
"I don't know if there will be a meeting, if there is I don't know when, if there is I don't know on what topic." We need to find out a little more, so we can give answers"
He said that the parties now have an agreement that needs to be implemented, and that, in his opinion, Serbia does not recognize that agreement.
"They do not recognize the agreement that they themselves accepted." Now they realized that because of the Greater Serbian ideology, that agreement was not acceptable. I think we should respect the Basic Agreement and implement it," Kurti said.
