The exhibition of photographs by Bojana Janjić "Closer" will be opened tomorrow, Monday, in the cafe "Meduza" in Belgrade. The exhibited works include details from concerts and portraits of world music stars such as Nick Cave, Iggy Pop, Dipesh Mod, Kills, Noel and Liam Gallagher, Florence and the Machine, Editors and many others.
"Cafe 'Meduza' seems to me to be an adequate space because of the ambient lighting that creates a more dramatic and mystical appearance of photographed scenes and portraits." "Cafes are places that attract a diverse audience, where you can see the exhibited photo up close, as well as immediately share it with others," says Bojana Janjić for the "Vremena" portal.
Her photographic language is characterized by the aesthetics of an intimate moment and the desire to record the moments of discovery of the performer in the dynamics of the concert stage, to penetrate with the lens under the masks, make-up and costumes, it is written in the announcement of the exhibition.
Speaking about the concerts that left the biggest impression on her, the photographer says that "there were a lot of good and energetic ones", and that "she especially enjoyed photographing Dave Gahan because of his dynamism and passionate performance." Chasing the lens of Dave as he confidently flies around the stage like a bird was an extraordinary experience. And of course, there's Iggy and his unbridled energy that dominates the stage.

The concert portraits in the "Closer" exhibition depict the relationship between the photographer and the performer on stage, the very space between is erased by the proximity of the camera, the announcement says.
In her photographs, the portraits are taken at events, but what we see in them are experiences, brief moments of closeness, familiarity with a stranger. Musicians on stage, in the moment of creation, are closest to their essence than in any other situation in which we can see them. The portraits do not record the event, but her focus is on the detail, the artist on the stage, the emotion that she freezes from close up in the very moment of closeness.
Bojana Janjić has been doing photography for the last seventeen years, and now she is a photographer at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade. She was a photo editor and photo reporter in several media houses.
The exhibition "Closer" lasts until October 16.
