Pahomije, whose secular name is Tomislav Gačić, is no longer the bishop of the Eparchy of Vranje as of Monday he was already officially promoted to metropolitan.
Pachomius is officially the Metropolitan of Vranje from this Epiphany Monday, as can be seen from the diocesan correspondence with the media and texts about the celebration of the city's glory in Vranje, on the official website of the Eparchy of Vranje, as well as on the official website Serbian Orthodox Church.
Thus, in the report from the celebration of Holy Monday in Vranje on the website of the diocese, it is written that "His Eminence, Metropolitan Pachomije of Vranje, the clergy and monks of the Diocese of Vranje served the Holy Liturgy."
Bishop Pahomije has been on the bishop's throne of the Diocese of Vranje for 32 years.
He was elected bishop of Vranje on May 28, 1992.
The ordination was performed by Serbian Patriarch Pavle, together with several other archbishops.
Accusations of pedophilia
Let us remind you that in March 2006, the Municipal Court in Niš acquitted the bishop of Vranje, Pahomi, of the accusation that he committed lewd acts against two minor boys.
"It has not been proven that Tomislav Gačić committed criminal acts of fornication against two boys," said then the president of the court panel, Katarina Ranđelović, explaining the verdict and adding that there is a certain degree of reasonable suspicion, but not such a degree of certainty that the court would have issued a guilty verdict.
In the explanation of the verdict, it is stated, among other things, that the doctors who examined the mental state of Bishop Pahomija determined that he is a highly moral person, who has no tendency towards pedophilia.
The accusation for the same criminal acts, for which two other boys were charged against Pahomi, was dismissed by the court due to the statute of limitations.
Bishop Pahomije claimed in court that he was not guilty and that the secret services of Albania, Macedonia and other countries made the affair because he works to protect Serbian interests in the south of Serbia.
