I am really sad that the "Manjej" cafe, after many years of struggle, "retired".
It's a casino now.
It's kind of to be expected. We couldn't hope for a gallery, could we?
Admittedly, the owner who privatized it tried for years, but failed to attract the kind of guests that once characterized "Manjej" in the 80s and 90s.
He even adapted the pub, with surprisingly solid taste.
We spent a good part of the 80s in "Manjež". All the now famous writers, journalists, painters, directors, actors spent their twenties and thirties hanging out there.
Later I went there occasionally. We watch a play at JDP, we go to "Manjez". My son comes from Berlin, we go to "Manjez". Sometimes, I make my wife sit right in "Manjež".
And there, mostly deserted. We are often the only guests.
You remember, we signed petitions for the survival of the pub, instead of sitting in it. And we order "liter and siphon". Eh.
It is difficult to expect that the state will subsidize "a liter and a siphon", although I would be delighted to live in such a state.
Apparently, the owner was losing money and - surrendered. No anger.
Well, the fact that I'm writing this to you, in this way, instead of telling you about it in "Manjež", testifies to the fact that times have changed.
Fucking virtual "liter and siphon" but that's how it is.
