The epidemiologist's forecast that in the next ten days the number of people infected with the Covid-19 virus will reach a record number since the beginning of the epidemic seems to be coming true: according to the Ministry of Health, in the last 24 hours, 59 people have died in Serbia, 147 patients are on ventilators, and the virus has 15.352 out of 31,521 tested residents tested positive. The death rate is 3,701.
"The peak of this wave is yet to come," said the director of the "Batut" Institute, Dr. Verica Jovanović. She expects the number of hospitalized patients to increase.
At this moment, the number of admissions has increased, and hospitalization lasts no less than seven days.
It was reported from the Bežanijska Kosa Clinical Hospital Center that their capacities are full, that is, they have no available beds. All places in the intensive care unit where severe patients with bilateral pneumonia are placed are occupied. "Patients are not as easy as you think," said director Marija Zdravković and stated that they have 350 to 400 patients every day.
"About 95 percent are on oxygen." The hospital consumes large amounts of oxygen. As soon as we discharge one, we accept a new patient," said Dr. Zdravković.
He also points out that patients who have not been vaccinated have severe forms of the disease, and that for those who already have serious illnesses, covid is just the last straw.
We are in the season of respiratory viruses, it is possible to expect viruses that will appear in parallel with Covid 19. Citizens are urged to refrain from risky behavior, to adhere to epidemiological measures, and above all to get vaccinated.
