Immediately after the publication of the interview in "Informer" with the repeatedly convicted rapist Igor Milošević, the feminist collective "Women's Solidarity" called for a protest. Sociologist Jelena Riznić and member of "Women's Solidarity" says that "what happened is unacceptable."
"The tabloids treat the issue of violence against women exactly as the name suggests — tabloid and sensationalist — but this is a whole new level of evil and degrading to women. This must not remain without reaction and without bearing responsibility, but in the true sense of the word."
Jelena Riznić assesses that "the basic message of this interview is that clicks, viewership and, as the editors of Informer said, exclusivity are more important than women with experience of violence" and adds that there is actually no exclusivity in that interview because "we know it and we listen to it through growing up constantly. Women and girls grow up and live in an atmosphere of fear, constantly surrounded by statements made by the aforementioned serial rapist. There is nothing exclusive about a rapist saying he has the right to rape. We know about their attitude, we have heard it many times, felt it on our own skin in numerous situations of sexual harassment and violence — that someone thinks they have a right to our body."
"Women have the right to safety and the right to be adequately represented by the media." We also know that the media have a responsibility to, because of the power and visibility they have, ask questions and put pressure on all competent institutions that should take care of our security," Riznić says.
In a statement, members of "Women's Solidarity" called for responsibility and an investigation into how a serial rapist got his space in the media. They also demanded that all contentious content related to this interview, written or recorded, be removed from the Internet and that the relativization of crimes and the intimidation of women be stopped.
"The media must be partners in the fight against crime, and for a world tailored to girls and women." The media must not give more space to bullies, because all the space is already theirs. The media must respect women's experience and struggle and create a place for us and our voices."
