Teodora Martinko: Survived the fall of the canopy, now fighting a new battle

After more than six months of falling canopy in Novi Sad, under which 14 people lost their lives, while two people later died due to the severity of the injuries and secondary complications, the multidisciplinary team of the Clinical Center of Vojvodina is closely monitoring the condition of Teodora Martinko, the only injured person who managed to survive the fall of the canopy and the severity of her injuries.

Director of the Clinic for Anesthesia, Intensive Care and Pain Therapy of KCV, prof. Dr. Teodora Tubić told RTS that the condition of the patient Teodora Martinko is stable.

"She has now been in the ward for a long time. I sincerely hope that all surgical interventions are now behind us, and there remains another short period when dressings are needed, of course not everyday anymore," says Dr. Tubić.

According to her, her courage and her will are something that absolutely in such a difficult situation in which she found herself, in addition to everything that a multidisciplinary team did for her, is certainly a large percentage of this success.

"I think that in any disease, such will and such courage will contribute a lot so that her initial condition, which according to all statistics was such that we did not even expect her to survive, now we can say that she is out of any danger to her life and we really sincerely hope that she will be discharged from our institution soon."

Dr. Tubić said that as far as her further treatment is concerned, her treatment should definitely continue in a rehabilitation center.

"There are still negotiations and finding the best possible institution for her, and of course what would be necessary for her is to provide a prosthesis with which she could function in her daily life," said Tubić.
