If the Ministry of Culture and Information rejects their appeal, directors Goran Marković, Želimir Žilnik and Srđan Dragojević will seek justice through the courts. They complained about the decision of the Board of Directors of the Film Center of Serbia (FCS) not to accept the decision of the Competition Commission, according to which they should have received additional funds for their films, without any explanation.
The Ministry of Culture and Information has not yet commented on their appeal, referring to the procedure - the appeal was not signed by the director of the Film Center of Serbia, Gordan Matić, who is currently in America.
According to the rules of the Film Center, an appeal against the decision of the Board of Directors can be submitted to the competent Ministry within 15 days, which Marković, Žilnik and Dragojević did. It is not known whether Matić could have signed the complaint electronically.
Let's remind you, 14 months ago, Srđan Dragojević and the producer of his film Scraps "Delirium" submitted a lawsuit to the Administrative Court against the Ministry of Culture and Information because the evaluation of that film was made without an explanation of how the projects were scored in the competition.
At that contested FCS competition, one of the members of the competition committee, Nebojša Pajkić, assessed that director Srđan Dragojević's relevance to Serbian cinematography "deserves zero points", which is why Scraps lost the possibility of co-financing.
Srđan Dragojević directed eight films for which he received 50 international awards.
Currently, the FCS Board of Directors has five of the nine required members, because four members resigned in protest at the rejection of the recommendation of the aforementioned Competition Commission.
It is speculated that another member of the Board of Directors of the Film Center of Serbia could soon leave, and that in this convocation with Jelena Trivan at the helm, it would cease to exist. The media and the cultural public mostly blame Jelena Trivan for the decision of the Board of Directors to refuse co-financing of films by Marković, Žilnik and Dragojević.
The long-time director of the "Official Herald" was yesterday appointed to another directorship - as the general director of the company "M:tel" from BiH, whose majority owner is "Telekom Srbija".
The public is commenting that the refusal to co-finance the films of Žilnik and Dragojević is collateral damage due to the disagreement of Jelena Trivan, a supporter of the Serbian Progressive Party, with the views and statements of Goran Marković about the current government.
According to unofficial information, the remaining members of the Supervisory Board are trying to announce a new competition for films by eminent directors. They discussed it with Purisa Đorđević and Srđan Karanović, who rejected the offer. Apart from Marković, Žilnik and Dragojević, there is only Emir Kusturica in the category of eminent directors.
