Second round local elections in Kosovo was held on Sunday (November 9) in 18 municipalities, in one of which a Serbian was elected Mayor, while others competed in the others, mainly with the Self-Determination Movement.
In Klokot, the candidate of the Serbian List, Božidar Dejanović, won 90,03 percent of the votes, according to the preliminary results. Thus, the mayoral candidates of the Serbian List won in all 10 municipalities.
As journalist Ljeart Hodža told "Vreme" earlier, after the first round of elections, the main battle for Self-Determination in the second round is in Pristina and South Mitrovica.
"Self-determination has the tactic of wanting to retain power in the municipalities that are in the border area with Serbia," explained Hoxha at the time.
In Pristina, citizens chose between the Democratic Alliance of Kosovo (LDK) and the Self-Determination Movement. So far, the Central Election Commission of Kosovo (CEC) has processed 40,94 percent of votes. According to those preliminary results, the LDK mayoral candidate won 51,54 percent (46,935 votes), while the Self-Determination candidate won 48,46 percent (44,126 votes).
Doubts in the election process in South Mitrovica
In South Mitrovica, according to CEC data, 39,38 percent of votes have been processed so far. According to preliminary results, the Self-Determination candidate has 53,47 percent (17,837 votes), while the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) candidate has 46,53 percent (15,522 votes).
However, the counting of votes, which began on Monday (November 10), was suspended in South Mitrovica due to suspicions of vote manipulation. Then the police and the prosecutor's office came to the scene, Koha reported.
After that, the CEC announced that there was an error in the printing of the ballots.
"Following concerns expressed by the public regarding the events during the process of verifying the results at the Municipal Counting Center in the municipality of South Mitrovica, the CEC clarifies: based on information received from the Municipal Election Commissions in Djakovica and South Mitrovica, it was determined that in several packages of ballots there was an error in the printing of one of the elements of the ballot, specifically in the polling station code," the CEC indicated.
He added that the company responsible for it "recognized the possibility that the error occurred in the mechanical printer that imprints the variable data."
Prosecution: Continue counting
The Basic Prosecutor's Office in Mitrovica confirmed that evening (Monday, November 10) that it ordered the suspension of the counting of votes in the Center in South Mitrovica, due to reported irregularities in the serial numbers on some ballots.
The deputy of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Perparim Gruda, after suspicions about the violation of the electoral process in South Mitrovica, requested that the vote be held again in this municipality.
However, the Basic Prosecutor's Office in Mitrovica ordered the Municipal Election Commission to continue the process of counting votes in South Mitrovica.
According to the announcement, the decision was made after the Slovenian company CETIS clarified the errors on the ballots.
"The Basic Prosecutor's Office in Mitrovica informs the public that it has ordered the Municipal Election Commission to continue the process of counting ballots at the Municipal Center in South Mitrovica Municipality. This came after the company CETIS, which prints ballots for municipal elections in Kosovo, explained through a statement that the counting problem occurred exclusively in one of the four color printer heads/plates, responsible for printing the number of the polling center, and that they are taking responsibility for this a mistake, according to which under normal circumstances it would be almost impossible for this to happen," the prosecution stated in a statement.
