Minister of Interior Affairs Ivica Dacic he stated that he was Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) acquired devices with "audio warning equipment" in 2021, but that these devices did not become part of the police, because no law was passed on their use.
"No one stole those funds, they are all accounted for," Dacic said at the session of the Serbian Parliament's Committee for Defense and Internal Affairs, which discussed allegations that a sound cannon was used at the March 15 protest, which the authorities reject.
"In order to use that tool, the director of the police has to give an order. How can he give an order for the use of a tool that is prohibited," Dacic claims.
Dacic denied that the Ministry of Interior owns LRAD (sound cannon), Vortex or any means of other production.
He also said that there was no reason for the use of any means and that the police did not have any information about it until late in the evening of March 15.
"When we heard about that information, I asked for a statement from all commanders of all units, and I can say that the police did not use any prohibited means. The police do not use those means," said Dacic.
Acting Police Director Dragan Vasiljević reiterated that the police did not use prohibited means.
"Acoustic means were never used," claims Vasiljević.
Gašić: The Serbian Army did not use a sound cannon
Minister of Defense Bratislav Gašić said that the Ministry of Defense took measures to check the data about the event in Kralja Milana Street in the center of Belgrade.
He stated that the Army was not involved in the March 15 protest and reiterated that the Serbian Army did not use a sound cannon like any other means with the same purpose.
Gasic said that the members of the Cobra special unit were holding an anti-drone rifle at the Presidency building.
Previously, photos appeared on social networks showing uniformed persons holding a device on the Presidency building, which part of the public believes is a prohibited means of breaking up demonstrations.
Miroslav Aleksić, president of the opposition National Movement of Serbia and member of the board, said that no explanation was given for what happened at the March 15 protest.
"None of you said what happened. This means that you are not capable of protecting the citizens of Serbia. It is a monstrous and criminal attack. It means that the institutions are not doing their job and this is proof that the students' demands have not been met," Aleksic said.
Previously, on March 17, "Vreme" exclusively published information that one of the sound cannons was handed over to the Police Brigade on Banovo brdo in charge of suppressing riots and that, when it arrived, it was tested on people once - and never again because the policemen were incapacitated for work.
