The "My Serbia" association warns that the abolition of vacation vouchers in Serbia would seriously threaten the development of domestic tourism and lead to a drop in the income of caterers and hoteliers, "which would return us to the situation of ten years ago, when providing accommodation was a secondary activity."
In the coming days, it will be decided whether vouchers for subsidized vacations will be awarded this year as well Serbia or the money will be directed to some capital projects in tourism.
That is why the Association "My Serbia" sent an open letter to the Minister of Tourism and Youth, Husein Memmić, in which it was pointed out that the abolition of those subsidies would seriously threaten the development of domestic tourism, leading to a drop in the income of caterers and hoteliers, "which would return us to the situation of ten years ago years, when providing accommodation was a secondary activity".
That association stated that due to the abolition of vouchers, many restaurateurs who took out loans and invested in business would find themselves in serious difficulties.
It was also stated that the abolition of vacation vouchers in Serbia would be against the recently adopted Law on the Budget for 2025, as well as the Strategy for the Development of Tourism in Serbia.
Suggestions for improvement
The "My Serbia" association emphasized that successful subsidies should not be abolished, but that they should be increased and improved, so it suggested that instead of the planned 100.000 vouchers, a quota of at least 250.000 vouchers should be approved immediately.
"My Serbia" proposed that instead of the amount of 5000 dinars, as planned in the budget for 2025, the voucher value of 10.000 dinars should be kept, as was the case last year, or that this amount should be increased and that the awarding process be digitized vouchers, to introduce the possibility of receiving vouchers in digital form, via email or SMS message, and to reduce the minimum period for submission of forms for all citizens who opt for an electronic voucher before booking from 30 to 15 days.
The association "My Serbia" also proposed to develop an application that caterers will read the digital code from the guests' mobile phones, which will avoid unnecessary manual filling of forms by caterers and sending by mail to the Ministry, as well as manual processing of the same vouchers in the Ministry.
The aforementioned application would be directly connected to the payment transaction, so the money would be transferred to the host's account immediately after reading the data on the realized voucher and verification in the Ministry.
