For the fourth day, no one knows where the political prisoner and professor from Novi Sad is, and in what state of health Marija Vasić.
Her son Milan Canak wrote on the X network that both the family and the lawyers are in the dark. He added that he is being attacked because of his last name Nenad Canka, a well-known politician from Vojvodina, as well as political views. However, he said that he only defended his own mother, whose fate can be experienced by anyone in Serbia who stands up against the government.
He also wrote that so far not a single piece of information has arrived about her condition, as well as that there is no response to the lawyer's complaints, nor to the review request.
"Not a single response to the request for visits. Not a single information about whether she ate. We do not officially know whether she is alive," announced Milan Canak.
Marija Vasić's husband, David Trnavac, told N1 that they still do not have official information about the state of health of his wife, who is in the prison hospital in Belgrade.
"The only thing we can hope for is that she is in a better condition than she was on Tuesday (when she was transferred to Belgrade). Everyone is silent about her condition, there is no information from the institutions," he said.
As he says, there is no response to the official request for the delivery of her medical documentation.
"We have not received any response and we cannot obtain visitation permits because there is no one in the court. We are waiting for Monday to see if someone will appear, to request visitation permits, in order to find out how he is and in what physical and mental state he is," he points out.
He also believes that gatherings of support for his wife and other detained activists are the only option they have, and he believes that this type of pressure will lead to some results.
He adds that the family is more or less fine, the only thing bothering them is the ignorance of Maria's condition.
Who is responsible?
Boris Tadić, the former president of Serbia, believes that Vučić's government and he personally are directly responsible for Marija Vasić's health condition. He wrote on X that it is shameless that Vučić gives a speech in Niš in which he admires himself, while Maria's life is threatened and there are political prisoners in Serbia.
"Applauding such a government is applauding the civilizational collapse of Serbia, and those people who were dragged to Niš today for that shameful gathering from all parts of Serbia know that," wrote Tadić.
What happened
Professor Marija Vasić, after a 48-hour hunger and thirst strike, was transferred on May 15 from Novi Sad's Klisa District Prison to the hospital within the prison in Belgrade, where, according to her son, she was given an infusion.
During transport, she lost track of her for several hours, and later it was revealed that she was first in the Clinical Center of Vojvodina, and then sent to Belgrade.
Vasić is one of six activists of the Movement of Free Citizens and STAV, who have been in custody since mid-March, on charges of subverting the constitutional order.
After their detention was extended for the third time, Vasić went on a hunger and thirst strike.
