Plenums of students of the University of Arts and the University of Belgrade have announced that they are organizing peaceful assembly On January 17 at 18:30 in front of the Radio and Television of Serbia (RTS) in order to, as they say, once again draw attention to the "inadequate reporting of this public media service".
As they stated, all students and citizens, as well as RTS workers, are welcome to join them at this gathering. As always, we disassociate ourselves from all political parties and features, the announcement reads.
"More than a month has passed since the previous student gathering in front of RTS, the reason for which was the poor work of this public media service. The media space for the subject of student blockades can still be measured only in seconds, as in the case of the Mostar interchange blockade. In the 33 hours of broadcasting of the news program on RTS, from the publication to the execution of the action, not a single minute was devoted to blocking the most important road in the capital. Thus, RTS's information program violates its principles of a public media service to report objectively, comprehensively and in a timely manner, to the extent that citizens are deprived of service information," the announcement stated.
As they added, the problem with RTS reporting is not only the information that is omitted, "but also the information that is placed - the identification of actors with terrorists, a topic that took up a lot of space in the RTS news program on January 14, encourages even greater discord among citizens".
"We are fighting for a society without violence and we oppose this type of agitator reporting, which is unacceptable for a public media service. RTS endangers all citizens with its continuous media darkness," it added.
As they say, the traditional motto of this public media service, "your right to know everything", refers to "everything except service information, important topics in society, as well as objective and timely reporting".
"Our right to know everything, it seems, is our right to know nothing." See you on Friday in front of RTS," the announcement concludes.
