Students call for protests
Because of andincidents that happened on Tuesday evening (August 12) occurred in front of the premises of the Serbian Progressive Party in Vrbas and Bačka Palanka, Students in the blockade called for new protests throughout Serbia tonight.
As it was already written, "Time"on Tuesday, at the same time, SNS supporters attacked citizens gathered at protests in Vrbas and Bačka Palanka, pelting them with pyrotechnics, eggs and bottles. A fight also broke out in Vrbas, while the police in Bačka Palanka did not react.
"After the brutal and coordinated attacks on citizens and students during the peaceful protests in Vrbas and Bačka Palanka on August 12, 2025, the public is once again faced with open violence against those who peacefully express their political opinion," the Blockade Students stated in the call to protest.
"According to several media reports, supporters of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party, behind the police cordon, threw pyrotechnics, bottles, eggs, ice cubes and other objects at the gathered people. Several citizens, including children, were injured, while the press teams were distracted by green lasers," the statement added.
The students say that, according to the participants, the police did not react at first, and in Bačka Palanka they did not intervene at all, even though the attack was synchronized with the one in Vrbas. The Ministry of the Interior announced that four policemen were injured, but responsibility for the attacks on citizens was not taken.
"Events like this indicate a worrying trend of politically motivated violence, impunity and abuse of public resources to deal with dissidents. Citizens and students across Serbia say that such attacks will not be watched silently," announced Students in Blockade.
