Aleksandar Kavčić, a philanthropist who collected financial aid for educators in Serbia in a record time, was detained at the airport upon entering Serbia, and was later released, without explaining why he was initially detained
Aleksandar Kavčić, a philanthropist who recently collected around 100 million dinars to help educators in Serbia, was allowed to enter Serbia, after he was first detained at the Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, his Alek Kavčić Foundation confirmed for "Vreme".
"The professor was allowed to enter the country, but we did not get the reason why he was initially detained," lawyer Ljiljana Borović Marjanović told Vreme.
As he adds, this is not the first time Professor Kavčić has been detained at the airport in Belgrade, but it is the first time he has been taken to a special room.
"We don't know why, we were told to write to the Minister of the Interior to find out the reason," says Borović Marjanović.
Third layover at the airport
After landing on Wednesday (April 2) at passport control, Aleksandar Kavčić was separated and detained without explanation.
"This is the third time I have crossed the border and been arrested. I would like to hear why," Kavčić said. "All the cops say - it's not my fault, that's what the computer decided. So I'd like to know who programmed that computer."
He added that no one is telling him why he was arrested and taken to a special room, and that he has not committed any offense.
"I have no information why he was detained, nor are there any criminal proceedings against him," lawyer Ljiljana Borović Marjanović told "Vreme" earlier on Wednesday before Kavčić was allowed to enter Serbia.
"I have been representing him for more than five years, no criminal or misdemeanor proceedings are being conducted against him."

The Alek Kavčić Foundation collected about 100 million dinars in aid for educators.
Lawyer Borović Marjanović says that she hopes that this is not the reason for his detention.
"I don't want to believe that this has anything to do with his help to educators," says Borović Marjanović.
