On Wednesday, November 27, the lawyers of the Vojvodina Bar Association are suspending their work for one day due to, as specified, the systematic and long-term interference of the executive power in the work of the judiciary and the dramatic violation of the independence of the court, the independence of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the balance in the division of powers
During the suspension of work, all members of the Bar Association of Vojvodina will not act before courts and other state bodies, except in the proceedings in which the detention of citizens is decided today and in the proceedings against minor perpetrators of criminal acts.
As specified, the decision was made due to the systematic and long-term interference of the executive power in the work of the judiciary and the dramatic violation of the independence of the court, the independence of the Public Prosecutor's Office and the balance in the division of powers.
The decision was also made due to proposed changes in the criminal legislation that would lead to changes in the basic principles of criminal procedure, further violation of the freedoms and rights of citizens and a negative impact on the impartiality of the court.
"The Bar Association of Vojvodina has decided to suspend work due to the deprivation of the right of lawyers to carry out their activities in full and unconditionally in the proceedings conducted before the Real Estate Cadastre Services," the decision reads.
It was also stated that the bar association opposes the arbitrary application of repressive measures against individual protest participants in connection with the tragedy at the railway station in Novi Sad, as well as the conspicuous absence of such measures against the small number of those who resorted to open violence at the protest.
