In the place where society breaks down

Sixteen days of Diana Hrka's strike

"If you criticize, they accuse you of overthrowing the state; if you sacrifice yourself, they keep silent. A hunger strike should show society what kind of position a person finds himself in when he has nothing else to do," Professor Oliver Tošković told "Vreme". "Hrka's actions and the reaction of those who supported her show that there is a readiness and perseverance in the fight, even though the fight is longer than we would like", Professor Tamara Džamonja Ignjatović concludes in our weekly.

Overview of the week

Father, son and an inhuman regime

If you have an iota of personal integrity, you will easily see yourself in the rain on a hunger strike. Just as there is no justice, law and constitutional rights for Milomir Jaćimović today, there may not be any for you tomorrow either

The icy cynicism of Ćaciland and the anger of the citizens

Due to the regime's use of Ćaciland against Diana Hrka, people were overwhelmed with anger and the feeling that we were dealing with monsters. How they deal with these feelings and how they can help us is the cover topic of the new issue of Vremena.

Wounded souls on the edge of Ćaciland

Dijana Hrka and Milomir Jaćimović are not just individuals on hunger strike - they are a symbol of the moral injury felt by the whole society. When we look at moral injury in a political context, it becomes clearer why otherwise reasonable and decent people can feel strong anger or even hatred towards those who behave cynically and without a shred of empathy.

Revolt of high school students

A mother is not left alone.

What got into those little people in high school and stopped their lives for two days to serve as a woman's back, so that she wouldn't lie without anyone day and night in front of Ćaciland? A fire of compassion and solidarity was ignited in the high school students. Because Diana Hrka is just the age to be the mother of each of them. And the mother is never left alone

Hunger and pain

A hunger strike also means that you hope that the passing of time increases the pressure and that the evildoers will repent and make amends. This is a non-violent form of protest that does not threaten the person against whom it is directed in any way, except that it appeals to his conscience. And therein lies the great danger of hunger strikes - that you may be trying to influence the conscience where there is no conscience and compassion... And it could easily turn out that those merciless people who are now laughing, singing and coming up with political tricks carry some hellish emptiness and hunger, so deep and all-encompassing that nothing, no amount of greed, tyranny, power, wealth, fame, will ever satiate.

"Say hello to Lončar": Saving Diana Hrka - from herself

A completely bizarre situation happened right after a minute of silence in front of the tent where Diana Hrko is on hunger strike. The ambulance tried to "examine" her by force, and the veterans guarding her were even ironically asked "if they can talk to the patient in person." It was as if she had secretly invited them

How much does a song cost in Ćaciland?

While Diana Hrka is on hunger strike, on the other side of the fence music is playing from Ćaciland. Behind the political spectacle, the question remained: who pays for the song and at what price? The same obligation to respect copyright applies to all organizers of public gatherings

Even though three people are currently on hunger strike in Serbia, one gets the impression that citizens are very indifferent to this, the most extreme form of peaceful protest.
