Faculty of Economics: Media in Serbia is not sustainable

There are over 2500 media outlets in Serbia. Their market value is modest and tends to decline. Media advertising budgets are a "small pond", for which, in addition to the registered ones, those who distribute content via the Internet are robbed. A fifth of the population does not trust any media

Open Venice Biennale: Reality brought to abstraction

"Walking with Water", Vladimir Nikolić's exhibition that represents contemporary Serbian art at the Venice Biennale this year, tells the story of the relationship between technology and nature. The Croatian exhibition is dedicated to today's post-truth era and its content will depend on current news, while the Montenegrin one builds an experience similar to a sci-fi story about possible futures.

Manipulation of fear and the price of populism: Peace, stability - Vučić

The pre-election scare of citizens with possible catastrophic consequences of the war in Ukraine is nothing new, the same matrix was applied in the 2020 elections, only then the apocalypse was threatened by the corona virus. When the fear is instilled in the voters, Aleksandar Vučić presents himself as the only savior with the tabloid thirds

Presidential candidate Aleksandar Vučić: There is only one

His most ardent admirers say that like Saint Sava, he is the greatest visionary, the solution to all problems, the last and only free leader in Europe. He says all sorts of things about himself, often contradictory, but one could say that he is a radical at heart, a hooligan by behavior and a populist in governance.

New Strategy for Roma: Old unfulfilled promises

Roma are the poorest community in Serbia. Two-thirds of them cannot even pay for prescribed drugs or testing for Covid-19. In 38 percent of Roma settlements, not a single residential building is connected to water, and more than 70 percent do not have sewage. Until now, the effects of the planned improvement of the living conditions of Roma women and men were limited to workshops on discrimination or educational programs of non-governmental organizations. Only slightly more than 0,1 percent of Roma are employed in the public administration

When everyone knows everything: Another of our stories about the collapse of meaning

Consensus of this kind, as we recognize in the "case of the detention of Nolet in Australia", when "everyone" knows what it is about, when "everyone" is clear about what is happening 15 and a half thousand kilometers from the Republic Square, is an expression of the torn public space in who has room only for the crowd, or that One who, as experience shows, is not burdened with meaning. And where everyone knows what it's about, no one knows what it's about, because the strength of "everyone" lies in the number (quantity), not in the argument (quality).

Vučić's first defeat: What will happen to the victory

It is better to build on what has been gained, than to call into question one's own goals and credibility with risky actions. The energy of the minority without which nothing would start is seductive, but now the key is in consolidating the support of the motley and silent majority

The Second Blockade of Serbia: The Day After

The "destinies of mercenaries" who "harassed millions of decent citizens" forced President Vučić to say on Saturday that he would order to amend the Law on Expropriation. A man whose power is based on intransigence has at least verbally announced that he will relent. Which leads to the absurdity of his statement "that the street will not determine politics in Serbia" and other things

Aleksandar Vučić: Lithium is good, Đilas is a thief, and fake environmentalists are paid by Rockefeller

In his address to the nation, Vučić tried to disgust the "decent people" with the opposition and environmental activists, said that Serbia would become a "European miracle" if domestic lithium batteries and electric cars were produced there, and announced that the police on Saturday, December 4, would not prevent road blockages. A tone of quiet menace permeated the entire presentation

Airport, world and ours

At its peak, Aeroput flies to all four corners of the world: north to Budapest, Brno and Prague, west to Venice and Milan, south to Tirana, east to Bucharest and Sofia. Almost all major Yugoslav cities (Zagreb, Podgorica, Dubrovnik, Sarajevo, Ljubljana, Sušak–Rijeka, Split and Skopje) and some smaller ones (Bitolj, Borovo) are connected to Belgrade. Before the Second World War Aeroput had a modern fleet of 14 aircraft (with seven Lockheeds as the backbone) served by a dozen pilots and five radio-telegraphers.

Why does Serbia not have an anti-fascist holiday

In Serbia, it is about the aspiration to make anti-fascism more national, Serbian by highlighting the contribution of the Chetnik movement. In addition, there are often attempts to rehabilitate even open fascists through anti-anti-fascism. On past and present holidays of the old and new states, the same problem arises as in the case of history textbooks, but also of daily political events and, in general, everything that has to do with the past according to which we arbitrarily define ourselves, taking from it what suits us at that moment.
