Epidemic of violence: Schools in the Balkans as a firing point

Serbia has not yet recovered from the May tragedies, when 17 people, mostly children and young people, were killed in just two days. The unimaginable violence in the middle of a school, and then in a peaceful neighborhood near Belgrade, was unfortunately not the peak of aggression in society, but only the beginning of an epidemic of violence that is spreading throughout the region.

A look back at 2023.

A year of great sadness and only occasional joy

It did not repeat itself, one could say about the past 2023. For Serbia, it was a year of mass murders and mass protests, high prices and low living standards, widening gaps in society and decreasing expectations, big promises and small achievements, strengthening autocracy and weakening solidarity . Only great optimists enter the new year with the hope that it will be a happy one for the majority of Serbian citizens

Three months since the mass murders: Shameful reactions and shameless words

On this day, three months ago, one child killed nine children and the custodian of the "Vladislav Ribnikar" elementary school. A day later, a mass murder took place in the vicinity of Mladenovac. The words and gestures of the government representatives after that tragedy were so inappropriate and shameless that they caused mass protests that continue to this day.

The recently formed Parliamentary Inquiry Committee, which was supposed to investigate the circumstances that preceded the mass murders in early May and the eventual responsibility of institutions and individuals, was quickly disbanded by the decision of the President of the Assembly. The spirit of freedom and victory over fear

The wave of liberation that is sometimes impossible to stop also applies to those "enslaved" in the progressive system of corruption who are beginning to understand that the ruler is not so all-powerful anymore. The oppositionists say that they simply cannot live with a bunch of "repentants" from the government pyramids who bring them information and justify themselves, trying to make a link with the "other side".

Support for reinstating the death penalty is growing around the world. Last year, the number of executions increased by more than 300 cases. Death in us and around us

It's strange, I'm surprised myself, when I realize that I discover that I, Ivan Ivanji, when I was his age, had a lot of similarities with the thirteen-year-old killer from "Ribnikar", about whose life and family circumstances, whether I wanted to or not, learned from the media. My father was also a doctor and owned a gun, a Browning pistol, and a permit to carry it because he was a reserve officer, a medical lieutenant colonel. When I was twelve, he taught me how to shoot. It's really strange, but I understand how the thirteen-year-old student of "Ribnikar" must have felt when the police took him out of the school where he committed mass murder - proud like I was when the Novi Sad policemen took me on the way to Auschwitz. Perpetrator or victim, it doesn't matter, it's about the child's feeling that he is suddenly very important
