States have a legal obligation to take measures to protect the environment from climate change, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The court emphasized that it is the duty of states to act conscientiously and in mutual cooperation, in order to fulfill their obligations under international law, especially from the Paris Agreement, which foresees limiting global warming to a maximum of 1,5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.
