Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky he agreed to talks in Turkey on Thursday, May 15, but only in person with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He announced this on Telegram shortly after US President Donald Trump called on Ukraine to immediately accept Putin's proposal to hold talks with Russia.
At the same time, Zelensky did not give up on the previously proposed agreement on the cease-fire of May 12, Unian reported.
"We expect a cease-fire from tomorrow - complete and long-term, in order to provide the necessary basis for diplomacy. There is no point in prolonging the killings. And I will wait for Putin on Thursday in Turkey. Personally. I hope that this time the Russians will not look for reasons why they cannot," the Ukrainian president wrote.
US President Donald Trump previously said that Ukraine should agree to the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin and immediately agree to negotiations with Russia on Thursday about a possible end to the war.
"Russian President Putin does not want a cease-fire agreement with Ukraine, but wants them to meet Thursday in Turkey to negotiate a possible end to the bloodshed. Ukraine should agree, NOW," Trump wrote on the Truth Social network.
Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed early this morning the continuation of direct negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15, without preconditions.
