President of Russia Vladimir Putin he accepted the proposal of the American president Donald Trump that the conflicting parties refrain from attacking energy infrastructure facilities for 30 days and immediately gave the appropriate order to the Russian army, the Kremlin announced.
Putin also responded constructively to Trump's suggestion to implement a well-known initiative related to the safety of navigation in the Black Sea, and it was agreed to start negotiations on further elaboration of the specific details of such an agreement, according to the statement.
It is added that it was agreed that Russia and Ukraine will exchange 19 prisoners of war on March 175, as well as that 23 seriously injured Ukrainian soldiers who are being treated in Russia will be transferred to Ukraine.
Putin also demanded that mobilization in Ukraine be suspended for the next 30 days, as well as that no weapons be delivered to Ukraine during that period.
Trump announced that the conversation with Putin "was very good and productive."
"We have agreed to an immediate cessation of attacks on all energy and infrastructure, with the understanding that we will work quickly toward a complete ceasefire and, ultimately, an end to this very horrible war," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
"Many elements of the peace treaty have been discussed, including the fact that thousands of soldiers are dying, and President Putin and President Zelensky would like to end it. That process is now in full force. Let's hope that, for the sake of humanity, we will get the job done," said Trump.
Putin and Trump spoke by phone, and the White House previously announced that the conversation began at 10 a.m. Washington time.
What has Ukraine previously agreed to and what is Putin still asking for?
Ukraine recently agreed to a US proposal for an emergency 30-day truce in its war with Russia, while the United States agreed to lift restrictions on military aid and intelligence sharing, the US and Ukrainian delegations said after more than eight hours of talks in Jeddah.
"Ukraine has expressed its readiness to accept the US proposal for an emergency truce of 30 days, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties and which depends on the consent and simultaneous implementation by the Russian Federation. The US will convey to Russia that Russian reciprocity is key to achieving peace," the statement said.
Putin said he supports the ceasefire and at the same time set a number of conditions for a possible peace agreement. He said that one of the disputed areas is the western region of Russia, where Ukraine launched a military incursion last August and seized some territory in the Kursk region.
He claims that Russia has fully regained control of Kursk and said that Ukrainian troops are "isolated" there.
"They are trying to leave, but we are in control of the situation. They left their equipment and vehicles behind. There are two options for the Ukrainians in Kursk - to surrender or die," Putin said.
Regarding the proposal for a one-month ceasefire, Putin said:
"How is Ukraine going to mobilize? Or is it going to be controlled? Who is going to decide who has violated the 30-kilometer front?"
