The tram was moving from the railway station towards Baščaršija and at the moment when it joined the main road near the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, it derailed, passed through the entire tram stop and ended up on the road.
The girl (17) who was seriously injured is in serious condition and her life is in danger.
She was treated at the General Hospital, where her leg was amputated, writes Klix.
A young man from Brčko, Erdoan Morankić (23), who was studying in Sarajevo, died in the accident. He was a student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. At the time of the accident, Morankic was at the tram station, when the tram suddenly derailed and hit a stop full of passengers.
Morankic died at the scene of the accident, while four other people were injured.
Due to the existence of grounds for suspicion that he committed a criminal offense against public transport safety, the tram driver was arrested on Friday.
He was previously questioned by the police on Thursday, and according to the "Avaza" portal, immediately after the accident, he underwent a psychiatric examination.
The police said that the traffic light "opened" (probably meaning the green light) and that he continued driving, after which the tram turned to the right in a curve, that then "what happened happened" and that is all he remembers about the event.
