Hungarian Prime Minister Peter the Hungarian announced that "the Government made many extremely important decisions at yesterday's meeting".
Among the decisions on funding parties, funds Of the European Union, the education system, foreign workers, the National Chamber of Agriculture and environmental issues, and the most important for Serbia is the one concerning investment in transport.
As the Hungarian stated in a post on Facebook, the Government of Hungary has decided to immediately investigate and review several investments, including the railway Budapest-Belgrade railway.
Just two days ago (June 3), the new Minister of Transport and Investments of Hungary, David Vitezi, stated that mistakes were made in this project on several levels.
Delays and controversies
More than 10 years ago, China, Hungary and Serbia agreed on a project to reconstruct the Budapest-Belgrade railway. The initial idea was to connect the Greek ports of Piraeus and Thessaloniki with Budapest and other European cities.
Freight traffic was established in the night between February 26 and 27, but passenger trains are still waiting.
Deadlines have been moved and broken several times.
The last announcement for the opening of the railway to Budapest by the former Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Sijart, was for March 27. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić himself said earlier this year that "he is confident that we will open the railway for road traffic by the end of March."

The beginning of railway traffic between Belgrade and Budapest was announced for 2017. However, that year the works were just starting in Serbia, while in Hungary the project was halted. In 2018, the European Commission launched an investigation into possible irregularities in public procurement.
In Serbia, the railway to Novi Sad was launched in 2022, and the section to Subotica in October last year.
According to Forbes, the modernization of the route from Belgrade to the Hungarian border has cost around 2,3 billion dollars so far.
Both Hungary and Serbia faced corruption issues on this project.
Canopy fall The railway stations in Novi Sad, renovated as part of this project, killed 16 people. There are still no people responsible for the tragedy.
