Syrian President Bashar al-Assad arrived with his family in Moscow, reports Ria Novosti.
As they claim, Assad and his family members arrived in Moscow, a source from the Kremlin told RIA Novosti, noting that Russia granted them asylum for humanitarian reasons.
Sources from the Kremlin confirmed that Assad and members of his family were granted asylum in the Russian capital.
Russia, one of Bashar al-Assad's closest allies, confirmed earlier today that he had left Syria, but did not specify his current location.
This ended the speculation of where the Assad family went after they fled Damascus, it was even suspected that they died in a plane crash.
President Putin and Bashar al-Assad have been friends for many years.
