The United States of America has started providing military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine again, it was confirmed in Kyiv. "The agreements are being implemented," Palvo Palis, deputy chief of staff of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced on Facebook. reports Deutsche Welle (DW).
This happened after Ukraine agreed to a one-month ceasefire proposed by the US at talks in the Saudi city of Jeddah. American negotiators have to persuade Russia to accept this agreement.
In addition, the agreement on Ukrainian raw materials should be concluded "as soon as possible".
Rubio: The ball is now in Russia's court
"Ukraine has agreed to accept the US proposal for an immediate, temporary ceasefire of 30 days, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which must be accepted and simultaneously implemented by the Russian Federation," the joint statement said.
The US will let Russia know that reciprocity in such an agreement is "the key to achieving peace." As for the continuation of military assistance, the joint statement said: "The United States will immediately lift the freeze on information sharing and continue security assistance to Ukraine."
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who participated in the talks in Jeddah along with National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, said "the ball is now in Russia's court".
Volz assessed that the outcome of the US-Ukrainian negotiations means that now it is not a question of "if", but "how" the war between Moscow and Kiev will end. He added that he now plans to talk with Russia about the proposed 30-day ceasefire.
US President Donald Trump welcomed Ukraine's willingness to agree to a ceasefire in the war with Russia. In a statement given in front of the White House, he assessed that it was a very important step and added that he now plans to speak directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin. "It takes two to tango, as they say," Trump said, adding that he hoped Putin would accept the offer.
At the same time, Trump assessed that there is a "big difference" between the last visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House and the talks that have now been held in Saudi Arabia.
Zelensky: If Russia agrees, the ceasefire will take effect immediately
For now, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia briefly announced that it "does not rule out the possibility that it will contact representatives of the USA in the coming days."
Ukraine sees the proposal for a one-month ceasefire as a positive step and is ready to take it, Zelensky announced on the X platform. "Now it's up to the United States to convince Russia to do the same." If Russia agrees, the ceasefire will take effect immediately."
