Former British Ambassador to the United States, Peter Mendelsohn (72), busted is in London on suspicion of abuse of office, as part of an investigation into his ties to a deceased convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Reuters reported. He was released on bail after being questioned by the police.
Before he was released on his own recognizance, he was filmed being led away by police from his home in Camden, after which he was taken to a local police station.
Police in London said "officers arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of abuse of office", but did not immediately name the suspect, which is common practice in the UK before charges are formally laid.
The arrest comes in the context of the latest revelations from the "Epstein Files" which suggest that Mendelssohn, when he was secretary of state and later a minister in the British government, shared classified government information with Epstein.

Retirement after revelations of relationship with Epstein
Mendelsohn, once a prominent member of the Labor Party, stepped down from the party and from the House of Lords earlier this month under public pressure following revelations about his relationship with Epstein.
Police raided two locations linked to Mendelsohn earlier this month - in Camden and in Wiltshire. After his arrest, he was released on bail pending an investigation.
The case is part of a wider investigation by British authorities into suspicions that senior government officials inappropriately shared classified information with Epstein, who died in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on charges of human trafficking and sex offenses.
It is interesting that the media has been quite restrained in reporting on Mendelsohn's arrest, unlike a few days ago when former British Prince Andrew was arrested, which in a very short period of time became breaking news of all leading media companies.
