"The municipality of Velenje strongly condemns any such act and emphasizes that there is no place in our city for vandalism and attacks on cultural and historical heritage," the municipality stated.
The life-size monument to Tito was made by sculptor Antun Augustinčić in 1977. The monument was unveiled on June 25, 1977, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Tito's accession to the head of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia, the founding congress of the Communist Party of Slovenia, and the location for the statue was chosen by Antun Augustinčić.
