Chancellor Friedrich Mertz openly said that he hopes for a regime change in Tehran or a return to the negotiating table, otherwise Israel will "go all the way"
German chancellor Friedrich Mertz see Israeli attack on Iran as a favor to the Western Allies. "It's the dirty work that Israel is doing for all of us," Mertz told public broadcaster ZDF on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Canada.
According to him, everyone is affected by the regime in Tehran, which has brought "death and destruction, attacks, murders, through Hezbollah and Hamas" to the world.
"Great respect that the Israeli army and the Israeli state leadership have the courage to do this," Mertz added, saying that "otherwise we would probably see months and years of terror from this regime and maybe with an atomic bomb in hand."
Mutual rocket fire between Israel and Iran has been going on since Friday when Israel struck first, explaining everything by saying that Iran is close to developing an atomic bomb.
Mertz has so far most clearly suggested that the goal is actually regime change in Tehran. "It would be good to end this regime," said the Christian Democrat politician.
A chance to negotiate
He added that there is a possibility for the "part of the government" in Iran that is "still functioning" to return to the negotiating table. "If they are not ready to talk, then Israel will go all the way."
Tensions with Iran's nuclear program have a long history. A major step was an agreement involving the US, the EU, Russia and China, when Iran agreed to control its uranium enrichment facilities.
That agreement was unilaterally violated by Donald Trump in 2018, with applause only from Israel. Then the official Berlin harshly criticized Trump.

With the imposition of a state of emergency and curfew, the use of the military, and eventually arrests, protesters in Chile were persecuted and punished. Decrees were introduced whereby university rectors were appointed by the army, while campuses were nationalized or privatized. It was only in 1987, near the end of Pinochet's dictatorship, that the students managed to force the regime to make concessions through a new series of protests and restore some kind of limited autonomy.
Since money has more value in America than in other parts of the world, budget allocation is not only a matter of the functioning of the state, but a matter of the priorities of those in power. The rich will have more, the poor even less, and all together will be more in debt than before
