Germany waiting for her Serbia extradite the man suspected of killing one person and seriously injuring another in Menden, near Dortmund, last August, writes DW.
Kenan M. (40) then shot two construction workers. One (45) died on the spot, the other (49) survived with serious injuries.
As the local newspaper Helveger anzeiger writes now, the competent prosecutor's office in Arnsberg states that the extradition procedure is underway "by diplomatic means", and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs is involved in everything.
Thus, a request for extradition will be submitted to the competent Serbian authorities, and there the courts will decide whether extradition is possible. Only then, writes the paper, German policemen they can bring the accused to Serbia.
There is no indictment without a hearing
M. managed to escape from Germany after the crime, and was arrested only three months later during a control in Serbia. He allegedly had fake documents with him.
He is a Serbian citizen. According to the media, he was born in Rožaj, and lived in Novi Pazar before going to Germany.
His wife, a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was also detained for a short time, due to suspicions that she helped Kenan M. to escape.
According to Helveger Anzeiger, German investigators collected evidence and testimonies.
Only an important step is missing - hearing the accused himself. There can be no official indictment before that.
Arguing about money?
According to the German media, the victims were working as handymen on Kenan M's house that Friday in August. Allegedly, there was an argument over unpaid money.
"I just wanted to pick up the scaffolding. He surprised us with shots. He shot me in the chest from a meter away," a Turkish citizen who survived the attack told Bild tabloid earlier.
His colleague, a German citizen of Turkish origin, was fatally shot.
Neighbors then described Kenan M. to Bild as a "psychopath" who allegedly beats his wife and children, and in another argument and fight he bit off a man's ear. He was also known to the police.
The local press adds that it is unknown how long the extradition from Serbia will take and when the trial in Germany would begin.
