"I can confirm that the Sultanate of Oman will host talks in Geneva next week between the United States and Iran. Switzerland welcomes and supports these talks," a Swiss foreign ministry spokesman told AFP, without specifying the date of the meeting.
He added that "Switzerland is always ready to offer its services to facilitate dialogue between the US and Iran."
Agencies previously reported that US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner should hold talks with Iran in Geneva.
Economic pressure
The call for dialogue comes after the US president Donald tramp and the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed during a meeting in the White House that the United States of America would increase economic pressure on Iran, mainly when it comes to oil sales to China, reports Axios today, citing two US officials familiar with the matter.
US officials say the campaign of maximum pressure will run alongside nuclear talks with Iran and an ongoing build-up of military forces in the Middle East for possible strikes if diplomacy fails.
"We have agreed to go full force with maximum pressure on Iran, for example, regarding the sale of Iranian oil to China," a senior US official said.
