Civil defense in Gazi announced that at least 24 people were killed and 93 were wounded in Israeli attack on a mosque converted into a shelter for displaced people in Deir el-Balah, in the central part of the Palestinian territory.
The Israeli military said it had targeted fighters from the Palestinian Authority Hamas.
The spokesman of the Civil Defense, Mahmoud Basal, said that many wounded people were in front of the entrance to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in that city, France Press reported.
The Israeli military said in a statement that it "carried out a precision strike" on Hamas terrorists who were operating in a command and control center located in a building that previously served as the Shuahad al-Aqsa mosque in the Deir al-Balah region.
The war in Gaza sparked a Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7 last year, which killed around 1.200 people, mostly civilians, and took more than 250 hostages to the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli offensive in response to the attack killed at least 41.285 Palestinians, most of them civilians, according to data released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health on Saturday. The UN considers this balance of victims to be reliable.
The conflict is spreading in the region
The attack on the mosque happened early this morning after Israel bombed Lebanon on Saturday, where it also attacks Lebanese fighters Hezbollah and Palestinian Hamas, according to the Associated Press.
That agency reports that men were killed in the attack on the mosque.
Thousands of people in Lebanon are fleeing, including Palestinian refugees, as conflict spreads across the region, while demonstrations take place around the world ahead of the anniversary of the start of the Gaza war.
Heavy explosions on Saturday were heard around midnight and continued on Sunday as the Israeli army warned residents of the Beirut suburb of Dahiya to evacuate.
AP video shows explosions lighting up densely populated, mostly Shiite suburbs where Hezbollah has a presence.
On the previous day, the strikes were sporadic and reconnaissance drones could be heard almost constantly.
The Israeli army has confirmed that it is carrying out airstrikes near Beirut and that 30 missiles crossed from Lebanon to Israeli territory, and that some were intercepted.
The strikes reportedly targeted a building by the road leading to Lebanon's international airport and another building previously used by Hezbollah's Al-Manar public service.
Shortly afterwards, Hezbollah announced that it had successfully targeted a group of Israeli soldiers near the Manara settlement in northern Israel.
Hamas official killed
An official of the military wing of Hamas, his wife and two daughters were killed in an Israeli attack on the Bedawi camp on Saturday, said the Palestinian extremist organization, which is also present in Lebanon.
Hamas later said another member of its military wing was killed in Israeli strikes in the eastern Bekaa Valley.
Israel has killed several Hamas officials in Lebanon since the start of the war against Hamas in Gaza and much of the leadership of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah as fighting escalated sharply.
At least 1.400 Lebanese, including civilians, health workers and Hezbollah fighters, were killed and 1,2 million displaced in less than two weeks.
Hezbollah, Lebanon's strongest armed force, began firing rockets at Israel almost immediately after the Hamas attack in a show of support for the Palestinians, it said.
Netanyahu: Macron's shameful request
French President Emmanuel Macron's call to impose an arms embargo on Israel is shameful, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.
Today, Israel is defending itself on seven fronts against the enemies of civilization, Netanyahu said, referring to Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank, Yemen, Syria, Iraq and Iran.
As Israel battles the forces of barbarism led by Iran, all civilized countries should stand firmly by our side, but President Macron and other Western leaders are now calling for an arms embargo on us. Shame on them, Netanyahu said, the Times of Israel reports.
He pointed out that Iran does not impose an embargo on the supply of weapons to its allies, while countries that are allegedly opposed to that terrorist axis call for an embargo on the supply of weapons to Israel, which is a great shame.
Israel will win with or without their support, and their shame will last long after we win the war, Netanyahu said.
