A man whom the Spanish media, referring to the first information from the investigation, says is a citizen of Serbia, was killed on Sunday (June 7) evening in the Barcelona neighborhood of Zona Franca.
The attacker approached him from behind and fired several shots, after which he fled. The Catalan police launched an extensive investigation and are looking for the perpetrator.
The shooting happened around 9:00 PM in the inner courtyard of the apartment block. According to witnesses, a man dressed in black approached the victim from behind and shot. After several shots were fired, the man fell to the ground, seriously wounded.
People who happened to be nearby tried to give him first aid until the police and ambulance arrived. Police and medical teams arrived soon, but despite resuscitation attempts, the victim died at the scene of the attack.
Earlier cases of murders of Serbs in Catalonia
If it is confirmed that the victim of the latest murder in Barcelona's Zona Franca is a Serbian citizen, it would be at least the third case in the last year that Serbian citizens or persons associated with Balkan criminal groups have been the targets of attacks in Barcelona.
Serbian citizen Krsto Vujić was seriously wounded on the terrace of a cafe in the Poblenou neighborhood in April this year while he was with his wife and child. The attacker approached him and shot him from behind. A few days later he succumbed to his injuries. Spanish and regional media linked him to the Skaljar clan.
In July of last year, Filip Knežević was killed in the center of the city, who was identified by Spanish investigators as a member of the Kavac clan and suspected of a double murder in Corfu in 2020.
Predrag Vujošević, a Serb of Montenegrin origin, was wounded in a shooting in Barcelona in August 2025. Catalan police investigated whether the attack was connected to the war between the Skaljar and Kavak clans. He survived the attack.
The attacker escaped.
The attacker managed to escape after the shooting. Eyewitnesses described him as a tall and large man. Police cordoned off a wider area and launched a search, but so far it has not been announced whether the suspect has been located.
According to the Spanish portal ElCaso, the first operational data indicate that the murdered man was a Serbian citizen, but his identity has not yet been officially confirmed. For this reason, the competent authorities are not providing additional information about the victim or the possible motive for the attack.
The crime caused further concern among Zona Franca residents as it happened in almost the same place where a man was also killed a few weeks ago. However, investigators do not see a direct connection between the two cases for now and are treating them as separate investigations. In the previous case, a Spaniard was killed.
The fifth murder in Catalonia since the beginning of the year
This is the fifth fatal shooting in Catalonia since the beginning of the year with a similar pattern. None of the previous cases have been solved yet, and the investigation is being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Catalan Police. Investigators are checking all the circumstances that could indicate possible connections with organized crime, but so far no concrete clues have been announced that would confirm such a suspicion.
