Donald Trump has stated several times that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, but the chances of such a thing happening are still not high. Serbian students are among the nominees for the award
On Friday, October 10, the name of the winner will be announced Nobel Peace Prizes.
Although the Statute of the Nobel Foundation restricts the disclosure of information about nominations, whether public or private, it is known that this year 338 individuals and organizations have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Among them are the president of the United States of America Donald tramp and students from Serbia.
Serbian students were officially nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize on January 31 of this year. The Nobel Committee confirmed that it accepts the nomination submitted by writer Siniša Kovačević and lawyer Dijana Stojković.
The fact that Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas have reached an agreement on the first phase of US President Donald Trump's plan to establish peace in the Gaza Strip could be a plus for the reason why, as he claims, Trump deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
However, the chances of him becoming a Nobel laureate are slim, given that the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which awards the prizes, held its last meeting on Monday (October 6), meaning that the name of the laureate was chosen long before the agreement between Israel and Hamas was concluded.
Nobel committee historian Asle Sven told AFP that "Trump will not win the prize this year."
"I am 100 percent sure of that," Sven emphasized, noting that the US president long ago "gave Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a free hand" to bomb Gaza and provided significant military aid to the Israeli army.
Nina Greger, director of the Peace Research Institute in Oslo, believes that the latest developments in Gaza came too late when it comes to Trump and this year's Nobel Prize.
"It is very unlikely that the latest events in Gaza will affect the decision of the Nobel committee. By this stage, the laureate has already been chosen and the speeches prepared before the announcement on Friday," she told Sky News.
However, if Trump's 20-point plan leads to a lasting and sustainable peace in Gaza, the board will almost certainly have to take it seriously in its deliberations next year, she added.
"Of course, they would have to weigh that achievement against the broader record of his efforts to promote peace -- both within the U.S. and internationally -- in accordance with Alfred Nobel's will."
Alfred Nobel's will, on the basis of which the award was established, states that the Nobel should go to the person "who has done the most or the best for the advancement of brotherhood among nations."
Trump has indicated on several occasions that he played a key role in stopping multiple wars.
"I fought six wars, I ended six wars," he said on August 18 during a summit with Ukrainian and European leaders.
The next day, in an interview with Fox News, he revised the number to seven wars. It's a claim he repeated last month, saying no one had "ever done anything like it."
He also mentioned Kosovo and Serbia in that context.
Trump said in June that the Nobel Committee should award him the Nobel Peace Prize and that he "should have won it four or five times."
In September, he told United Nations delegates that "everyone says" he should receive the award. He made similar comments when Army generals gathered in Virginia last week. However, he told CBS News in September that he was not seeking the award.
During his two terms in the Oval Office, Trump was nominated for the Nobel Prize more than 10 times. Nominations were sent by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Ukrainian politicians, as well as MPs from the USA, Sweden and Norway, writes Sky News.
Netanyahu nominated him for this year's award.
The winner of this year's Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on Friday, October 10.
