Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army Valery Gerasimov reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin that his soldiers had taken full control of Russia's Kursk region from Ukrainian forces.
The Ukrainians invaded that Russian border zone in August 2024, but they were already pushed back and only held a few pockets.
"Today, the last place on the territory of the Kursk region, the village of Gornal, was liberated from Ukrainian forces," Gerasimov said during a video meeting with President Putin, broadcast by Russian state television.
In response, Putin retorted that "the adventure of the Kiev regime has completely failed."
Gerasimov also praised the "courage" and "heroism" of North Korean fighters in fully retaking the Russian Kursk region from Ukrainian forces.
"The soldiers and officers of the North Korean army, who fought alongside the Russian soldiers, showed great professionalism, resilience, courage and heroism in suppressing the Ukrainian invasion," Gerasimov said in his address to Putin.
