In a joint statement released after the summit in Italy, G7 leaders called for a resolution to the Iranian crisis and a broader de-escalation of the conflict in the Middle East. Although U.S. President Donald Trump initially refused to sign the document due to wording regarding compliance with international law, the amended version won his support — while maintaining his harsh rhetoric toward Iran and unconditional support for Israel

G7 leaders they adopted a joint statement on the Middle East, calling for a solution Iranian crisis and a broader ceasefire in the region, including Gaza — after US President Donald Trump previously refused to sign it in its original form.

In a joint statement released on the final day of the summit, the leaders of the world's most powerful economies said they "reiterate their commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East" and that "Iran remains a major source of regional instability and terror."

"In this context, we confirm that Israel has the right to defend itself. We reiterate our support for Israel's security. We also confirm the importance of protecting civilians," the statement said.

According to a CNN report, the American delegation had previously refused to support the draft statement prepared by European leaders, due to wording that insisted on respect for international law and a diplomatic solution to the conflict. However, after the content of the document was changed, President Trump gave his approval.

In the final version, G7 leaders call for resolving the crisis with Iran to lead to "a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza."

The statement came as Trump left the summit early, saying he had to return to Washington to "monitor developments in the conflict between Israel and Iran."

In the last part of the statement, the G7 also warns about the possible consequences of the conflict on the world energy markets, stating that they will "remain alert when it comes to the implications for international energy markets" and that they are ready to coordinate measures with allies in order to preserve stability.
