While all eyes are on the war Israel and Iran, Gaza Strip is forgotten. And the humanitarian situation there is still dramatic. People feel abandoned by the world, he reports Deutsche says.
As the world watches a new war, drones and rockets being launched at Israel and heavy Israeli airstrikes on Iran, what is happening in the Gaza Strip is almost forgotten. Israeli human rights organizations point to this, among others.
Shai Parnes, a spokesman for the Israeli non-governmental organization B'Tselem, says: "Israel is taking advantage of the fact that the whole world is watching a new war between Israel and Iran, and that public and media attention is focused on the front lines of that front - only to continue the war crimes that Israel is committing against the people of Gaza."
The hostages are still in the Gaza Strip
Israeli Vicky Cohen considers it a scandal that the war in Gaza continues. Her son Nimrod has not been with her for more than 620 days. He was a tank soldier when terrorists abducted him from the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023. He was 19 years old then, he will turn 21 in July. His mother hopes he is still alive.
"The ongoing war is a risk to the life of my son Nimrod and the other hostages," he says. She thinks it would be better for both parties to end this nightmare.
There are still 53 hostages in the Gaza Strip. About twenty of them are still alive - and they are forgotten, says Vicky Cohen.
Dead, injured, starving
Not to mention the humanitarian situation - many dead and injured, starving people in the Gaza Strip. According to Palestinian sources, more than 300 people have been killed in Gaza since last Friday alone, when the war between Israel and Iran began.
Mohammed Abu Silmiya faces this every day. He is the director of the Al-Shifa hospital, which the Israeli army attacked several times, because it is said that terrorists were operating from there. Every day there are people killed and wounded, says the director of the hospital. "And the world doesn't notice it — it's like the war in Gaza is over. It must be reminded that the war continues, the genocide and starvation in the Gaza Strip."
People have to flee again.
And in recent days, people in Gaza have had to leave some regions. It seems that the population is forced to concentrate in narrow areas. Only there is humanitarian aid available. Nearly 700 trucks have entered Gaza in the past six days. Before October 7, 2023, about 500 trucks arrived in one day.
Human rights organizations criticize Israel for not focusing on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, but only on its own war aims. They also accuse him of using hunger as a weapon of war. At several distribution points, there are constant shootings, outbreaks of mass panic, deaths - as desperate people try to get food.
Especially few aid deliveries in northern Gaza
In the north, where Sahad Ahmad lives, especially little help is arriving. Her husband and brothers are dead. "For sure they forgot about us, considering the war between Israel and Iran. Everyone is looking over there now, they don't care about us," says Ahmad. She calls on all countries to show compassion, because the war has become even more intense.
Abu Ahmad Shamala used to be a farmer, but his land is gone and his house has been destroyed: "This war between Iran and Israel has made the world forget what is happening here. Despite the daily deaths and thousands of injuries, no one here pays any attention to this anymore. It seems they have forgotten Gaza."
But Israel has not forgotten Gaza. The soldiers continue their advance there. Attacks are daily and more and more people are dead. And the humanitarian situation is a complete disaster.
