In light of the months of protest and political crisis in Serbia, Prime Minister of Serbia Đuro Macut and rector of the University of Belgrade Vladan Djokic will meet again on April 30.
Rector Vladan Đokić accepted Prime Minister Đur Matsut's invitation to continue discussions on problems in higher education, scheduled for April 30, but also set the conditions under which he would attend the meeting.
"I accepted the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr. Đur Matsut, to continue discussions on problems in higher education, scheduled for Wednesday, April 30. Although the Prime Minister did not respond to the University's invitation to continue the discussions earlier, on April 28 or 29, with the deans of all faculties of the University of Belgrade, I believe that the dialogue must be continued in the interest of all members of the academic community and the state and society as a whole," said Rector Đokić, reports N1.
As he stated, he accepted the invitation with the condition that, in addition to him and the vice-rector for teaching, the deans, representatives of all four groups of faculties of the University of Belgrade, would participate in the conversation.
A platform for conversations as a starting point for dialogue
On this occasion, as he said, he will present the document Platform of the University of Belgrade for discussion with representatives of competent authorities and institutions as a starting point for dialogue.
"I hope that the announced dialogue will be a step forward in the direction of solving accumulated, decades-long problems in higher education and will contribute to the necessary change in the working atmosphere and calming of tensions between all social factors," said the rector.
The rector and the prime minister met initially met on April 22nd, and then Miloš Pavlović submitted criminal complaint against Rector Đokić, which is why the rector canceled the next meeting that was supposed to be held on April 23.
Macut then said that it was "unacceptable" and "non-academic", and then Đokić sent the rector a new invitation to continue the dialogue.
A few days before the meeting, Đokić was questioned at the police station in New Belgrade.
