Former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Montenegro Milutin Simovic busted was ordered by the Special State Prosecutor's Office, it was confirmed for "Vijesti" from Podgorica.
The arrest was made in Nikšić, and Simović was taken into custody on suspicion of organized crime and corruption.
For the time being, the Special State Prosecutor's Office has not announced what specific actions he is accused of in this case, while it is expected that more information will be known after the suspect's hearing.
Simović was the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development from 2016 to 2020, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Montenegro during the mandate of Prime Minister Duško Marković. His name has already been mentioned before in investigations related to alleged abuses of the agricultural budget and illegal payments of state funds.
The arrest of Milutin Simović is part of a broader action by the Montenegrin prosecutor's office aimed at prosecuting former high-ranking state officials, which has been intensifying in recent months as part of the crackdown on systemic corruption.
