Diesel at the pumps in Germany costs an average of 2,005 euros per liter, according to ADAC (German Automobile Club). That's 25,9 cents more than Friday before the Iran war.
Super E10 (premium unleaded) averaged 1,935 euros, which means it is 15,7 cents more expensive than Friday.
What will the government do?
Experts explain that diesel is currently more expensive than gasoline because its price tends to be more vulnerable to economic downturns -- partly because it is used as a substitute for natural gas and plays a larger role in the industry. The last time E10 or diesel cost more than two euros on average was in 2022.

What is happening is also starting a discussion about a possible cap on fuel prices. The German government, for example, significantly reduced taxes on diesel and gasoline from June to August 2022 to provide relief to motorists in the face of high prices. At the time, there was sharp criticism that the relief only partially benefited consumers.
Are there any abuses?
German Economic Affairs Minister Katerina Reiche (CDU) announces that prices will be checked: "We will investigate whether the situation is being abused," Reiche said in a podcast Table.Briefings. She added that she is in close contact with the Federal Office for Cartels regarding this issue.
German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil also threatened oil companies with consequences if they try to profit from the war in Iran and the current situation. "There must be no profiteering, and politicians must act and act clearly and consistently," the leader of the German Social Democrats told the public service. ZDF.

What are all the reasons for the price increase?
High fuel prices at the pumps are a consequence of the war in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of that country. The strait plays a key role in oil and gas deliveries. Since Saturday's escalation, crude oil and gas prices have risen sharply.
Christoph Tietgen from ADAC is one of the experts who point out that consumers also contribute to the rise in prices. "The petrol price situation is difficult because the market is extremely volatile - because of suppliers and, of course, drivers."
ADAC's app for finding the cheapest fuel stations in the area is currently being used five times more than usual. "If everyone fills up the tanks, there will be more demand, and that will push prices up even more," Tietgen explains. "We're in a vicious circle right now."
